Ozark Season 4 Part 2 Netflix Release Date: Actors, Narrative, Spoilers, and Everything Else You Need to Know!

Ozark, the Netflix criminal drama, has never failed to captivate us, and it’s back with more money and more issues.

The Byrde family’s wits have been put to the test throughout the series, with season three alone seeing them pushed to the brink in the name of their money-laundering operation.

Marty was kidnapped and tortured by the drug lord himself, Omar Navarro, who isn’t finished with his star accountant and Wendy yet. Meanwhile, the Byrde matriarch was forced to order a hit on her brother Ben to spare their family from being massacred by the cartel.

Now that Helen Pierce, a Navarro lawyer, has died, the two are back together, and things are about to get very real. Part one of Season Four opens with the couple shampooing Helen out of their hair.

They’re negotiating a deal with Navarro for their freedom moments later. To accomplish this, they must also negotiate a deal between Navarro and the FBI in which the mass-murdering crime lord walks free.

This seemingly impossible achievement sends them on a rocky road that ends with the killing of a Langmore, someone out for blood, the stitching up of the cartel’s leader, and the planned extradition of a criminal.

Not bad for just the first installment. Still, the million-dollar question on everyone’s lips is, “Have the Byrdes truly achieved their freedom?”

When Will Ozark Season 4 Part 2 Air?

You’ve almost definitely seen part one of Ozark’s fourth and final season by now. If not, you’re playing a risky game of gathering information for phase two. It’s not easy to avoid spoilers.

The first installment of the 14-part series was ultimately released in January. If you’re wondering when you’ll be able to get your hands on the last seven tense episodes, you’re in luck.

The sequel will be released on Netflix on April 29, 2022. The show’s return was announced with a frightening trailer starring Ruth Langmore, who is still reeling after the loss of her cousin Wyatt. In the new teaser, we see a devastated Ruth driving around in her car, gun drawn, looking for vengeance. Her vacuous look is complemented by a tense internal monologue.

“My childhood traumas were not the same as yours,” she explains. “I’m a cursed Langmore, you see. I’ve grown accustomed to violence and death. Perhaps not soon enough in the case of a Langmore.”

Her frightening comments could be a reference to Wyatt’s demise or a foreshadowing of her fate in the upcoming episodes.

Showrunner Chris Mundy discussed why he felt season four needed to be a two-parter in an interview with The Wrap.

“We always believed five [seasons] was an outer number,” Mundy said of the decision on how to end the show. “We simply didn’t want to repeat ourselves after that. We didn’t want the show to feel like it was continuing just because it was a TV show that had to. So really the decision has always been between ‘is it four [seasons] or is it five’, and then Netflix hit upon the idea of saying, ‘We’ll do four but we’ll make it long and split it in this way,’ and that felt perfect.”

Mundy believed that the standard format of 10 episodes each series was insufficient and that the split would better reflect Ozark’s ending.

“We could make these seven [episodes] feel complete and make the second seven feel complete, even though it’s all one continuum,” he added. “I believe ten would have been insufficient to portray the narrative in the way we desired. So any number greater than ten and less than twenty was okay in my book.”

“We’re so glad Netflix recognized the necessity of giving Ozark more time to properly conclude the Byrdes’ narrative,” Mundy said in a statement (via Variety). “It’s been such a great adventure for all of us — both on-screen and off — so we’re thrilled to get the chance to bring it home in the most fulfilling way possible.”

Jason Bateman elaborated: “For the Byrdes, a super-sized season equals super-sized troubles. I’m looking forward to finishing with a bang(s).”

Netflix may be holding back part two but fans will be pleased to know that Mundy has confirmed that the remaining seven episodes are locked and finished.

Who’s in Ozark Season 4 Part 2?

We lost some people in season four, as is customary in the Ozarks.

Due to their absence of a pulse, the following characters were not invited to the part-two party:

Corrupt sheriff John Nix (Robert C Treveiler), who was shot by Navarro’s loose-cannon nephew Javi Elizonndro (Alfonso Herrera) while investigating Helen Pierce’s disappearance.

Frank Cosgrove senior (John Bedford Lloyd), the chief of the KC gang, was also shot in the chest during a fight with Darlene Snell-turned-Langmore (Lisa Emery).

Darlene gets her comeuppance later on when Javi shoots her for refusing to close her drug operation. Wyatt Langmore (Charlie Tahan) finds himself in the sights and receives a bullet for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

So, who is still standing?

The Byrde family members — Mary, Wendy, Jonah (Skylar Gaertner), and Charlotte (Sofia Hublitz) – have all made it to the final lap. The Byrdes will be joined at the finish line by Omar Navarro (Felix Solis), Ruth Langmore (Julia Garner), and FBI Special Agent Maya Miller (Jessica Frances Dukes).

Despite Javi’s threats, Jim (Damian Young), who has advanced to become the Byrdes’ lawyer, avoids execution.

Frank Cosgrove Jr. (Joseph Sikora) does not share his father’s destiny. Trevor Evans (McKinley Belcher III), an FBI agent and Petty’s old lover, has only made a brief cameo, but we anticipate he will play a larger role in Part 2.

Three Langmore (Carson Holmes) and Sam Dermody (Kevin L Johnson) remain on board. Erin (Madison Thompson), Helen’s daughter, is alive for the time being but may not be for long if she continues to press her mother’s death.

The following newcomers have also been added to the roster:

• Randall Schafer, a retired Illinois senator (aka former X-Men star Bruce Davison)
• Javi, the trigger-happy PI; • Mel Sattem, the determined PI (Adam Rothenberg); • Bruno Bichir, the Navarros’ priest
• CC Castillo as Sheriff Leigh Guerrero, who takes the “my way or the highway” approach.
• Katrina Lenk plays Clare Shaw, the CEO of a major biopharmaceutical company. Her “judgment is tainted as she discovers the actual cost of power.”

Ozark Season 4: What Will Happen?

“It’s nerve-wracking,” Tahan said of how everything will end. “With an ongoing show, you don’t have all the scripts because it runs for years.” So, you have no idea how the show is going to pan out. But I have a lot of faith in the Ozark writers.”

As one would anticipate, Bateman has always been aware of the ending.

“I know where it’s all going to end,” he remarked (via IndieWire). “I was interested in the huge question that he [Mundy] has the chance to answer: Are they going to get away with it, or are they going to pay a bill?” What does he want the audience to understand about the ramifications – or lack thereof – of what the Byrdes have done?

“We had some wonderful discussions about it, and he has some really interesting thoughts about it.” Specifically, what happened at the end of the last episode: I know, and it’s fantastic.”

Bateman stated regarding the writing staff on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in December 2020: “I don’t know how they keep upping the threat without killing us or putting us in jail.” We create as many errors as we can without being killed or imprisoned. And we have even more planned for this [season].

“We land the plane in a very satisfactory manner,” he added.

Bateman made those comments two weeks into filming the last season, so there’s a decent chance he slipped a couple of big spoilers there. Looks like death and jail are off the menu for the Byrdes, unless he was executing a pretty major misdirect (he is an actor, after all).

However, it appears that there will be consequences. “He’s probably a little bit dumber than he thinks he is,” Bateman said of Marty, “so he backs into some stupid decisions and thinks they’re smart judgments, and then he’s got to pay the price for cutting shortcuts.”

Navarro picked the Byrdes over Helen at the end of season three, providing Wendy with the reassurance she sought by killing his attorney in the head.

Helen was making attempts to take over the reins from Marty and Wendy, therefore rendering them obsolete and assuring their deaths. But she failed, and despite his (temporary) imprisonment, the Byrdes are still in bed with the Navarro cartel’s leader, Omar Navarro.

“We conceived of the first part of the season as Marty against Wendy, and Wendy kind of wins that battle, and then it transfers to this tentative alliance between Wendy and Helen, and by extension Wendy and Marty vs Helen,” Mundy told Entertainment Weekly about the unexpected ending.

“By the end, we wanted to keep that tension of these two things [that] cannot cohabitate, because Navarro isn’t going to put up with anything unstable, and he was going to have to pick aside.”

“As good as Helen is, there are other lawyers in the world,” he continued. But Wendy and Marty have now accomplished two impossible feats for him.

“The first step is to find a casino to launder money through, which is the holy grail of money laundering.”

“And the second is that, at least in Navarro’s opinion, their claim that they have the FBI on their side and can swing the power of the US government in the drug war intervention against their rivals is something virtually no one else can do, and that essentially tipped the scales for Marty and Wendy.”

Marty has come close to leaving the money-laundering enterprise on two occasions, but his collaboration with the criminal boss remains… for the time being.

Will He Make the Transition in Season Four?

“It’s working out better than I could have hoped for, and I had high hopes,” Bateman told IndieWire. “There was a lot of emotion, a lot of danger, a lot of crisis in the first two screenplays that I read, and I was really curious to see if I could deliver to an audience as a director.”

“The fact that people ended up watching [Ozark] is something you have no control over, but it motivates us to keep working and make it even better and somewhat more difficult.” It’s been incredibly rewarding, and it motivates me to try to take a greater, more difficult swing on the next job.”

So, what does the future hold for our characters?

Ruth appears to have lost everything, her money-laundering firm has tanked, and Wyatt has unfortunately met his end. Ruth is now out for vengeance and plans to assassinate his murderer. Javi, but will she perish in the same way as her cousin?

Ruth will continue to play an important role in the narrative, according to Mundy. “I think it will come down to whether Ruth can truly develop something of her own that she wants and is sustainable, or whether she wants something else,” he said.

“And I think it will be about whether the Byrdes can convert their biggest error into this huge advantage, and how much karma will catch up with them if they do.”

Then there’s Jonah, who’s acting out because he’s angry at his mother for ordering the hit on his uncle Ben. However, acting out in the Byrde family entails Ruth temporarily laundering money, moving out of the house, and revealing family secrets left, right, and center.

It’s reasonable to say he’s not handling it well, and we can anticipate that to worsen in the upcoming episode.

Skylar Gaertner has been talking about Jonah’s journey in Season 4 (via Starry Mag), beginning with where his character falls at the start of the season.

“Well, he’s still alive… which says a lot for a program like this.” I can’t say much else, but it’s evident that the dynamics are shifting near the end of season three. When it comes to his family, Jonah is at a crossroads; up until now, he has gotten by being incredibly adaptive, devoted, inquiring, and hopeful.

“The Byrdes’ way of life continuously put those attributes to the test, but he always pulled through and, in fact, thrived because he had some base (however shaky) in his family.” The end of Season Three, on the other hand, threatens to overturn everything.

“We can only speculate on how his attitude on life may change after discovering the truth about his mother.” He’s been fairly unquestioningly following his parents until now, so it’ll be interesting to see how his reasoning changes as he deals with the current catastrophe.”

Skylar has grown significantly between seasons, and he is no longer the 12-year-old youngster who first appeared in season one. When Mundy was asked if this had any effect on Jonah’s maturation into adulthood, he explained that the two went hand in hand. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Mundy stated:

“I suppose his first act of resistance was shooting out those windows at the end of season three since that’s where we left him after season three.” Skylar, on the other hand, improves as an actor year after year. So it felt like we had to answer to that moment from the end of season three, and we knew Skylar could handle whatever we threw at him.”

He Continued, Saying:

“I also think it helps that he was 12 or 13 when [the show] started and turned 18 at the end of filming.” He certainly changed more than others – the rest of us looked the same, just a little older, whereas he appears to be a whole new person. That, I believe, contributed to his scenes with Ruth feeling more like a collaboration.”

When it came to Marty and Helen’s relationship, Mundy answered a question that many fans have had since the beginning. Do they have feelings for each other? At times, it appeared as if the two disliked one another, but Mundy insists this isn’t the case:

“I think they like each other,” Mundy told The Hollywood Reporter.

“That doesn’t necessarily imply they should be or stay together, but I believe there is a strong love there.” It’s more than simply history; it’s love.”

What does it mean for the two who have gone through thick and thin, blood and death threats, if love isn’t enough? Could this be a sign that their relationship is coming to an end?

Mundy teases us with more clues than a scavenger hunt, so whether a romantic conclusion or a more final finish is in store is unknown. During his interview (via The Hollywood Reporter), he finally addressed what the real car-crash flash-forward at the start of episode one was about.

“Even if you strive to manage everything, there are always things in life that are utterly beyond your control.” Marty, in particular, is constantly attempting to exert control over everything — and he’s so brilliant and linguistically dextrous that he usually succeeds.

“Some of it was just a reminder that the world is unpredictably unpredictable in that manner.” We will, of course, catch up at some point. But, more than anything, it was the idea that, even in times of relative calm, life can slip through your fingers at any time.”

Mundy previously told The Hollywood Reporter that he couldn’t reveal how the series would end, but he did guarantee an “emotional” finale: “We’re putting minor things in if we stay on pace for the emotional ending we’re hoping for.”
