With a dramatic cliffhanger at the end of Season 2, the Umbrellas time-traveled out of the 1960s just before another potential apocalypse and returned to 2019, only to come face-to-face with the Sparrow Academy. The Umbrella Academy will return for The Umbrella Academy Season 3 on September 14. The only thing we know about the Sparrows is that they are an alternate temporal version of the Umbrellas, with their own Ben (Justin H. Min) serving as their leader in the alternate reality.

We have a lot of questions about what that means and how much of a problem the Sparrows will be for the Umbrellas in the future. Fortunately, Season 3 is on the way, and it will pick up right where Season 2 left off, allowing us to find out what exactly is going on in the alternate-reality version of 2019 where Reginald (Colm Feore) is still alive and there’s an even more dangerous set of paranormal adoptive siblings trying to protect the rest of the world.

According to the official Season 3 description, the Umbrellas will unavoidably come into conflict with the Sparrows, but they will also require the assistance of the heroic organization in order to prevent yet another apocalyptic disaster that might be caused by the Umbrellas’ disorderly temporal jumping. Will they be able to save the planet once more, or will their good fortune run out at some point? Here’s all we know about the third season of Umbrella Academy thus far.

The Umbrella Academy Season 3: When Will Be It Going To Release?

Series creator Steve Blackman alleviated some of the fan anxiety during SXSW by announcing that The Umbrella Academy Season 3 will launch globally on Netflix on Wednesday, June 22. The announcement was preceded by a brief teaser video, which showed the Umbrellas taking on the Sparrows and then disclosed the date for the game’s release. So make a note of it on your calendars!

The Umbrella Academy Season 3: Cast & Characters

The Umbrella Academy Season 3 will feature all of the original cast members from the first two seasons of the show. In the role of Luther or Number 1, we’ll see Tom Hopper, David Castaeda in the role of Diego or Number 2, and Emmy Raver-Lampman in the role of Allison or Number 3. Klaus will also be played by Robert Sheehan, who will reprise his role (aka Number 4). Aidan Gallagher will also appear as Number 5 and Elliot Page will portray Vanya (Number 7).

Justin H. Min will also return, but he will not be the Ben Hargreeves (also known as Number 6) that we are all accustomed to seeing. Is he a member of the Brellies? Is he a Sparrow in every sense of the word? The most recent development is that Ben has been promoted to Number 2 in the Sparrow Academy, serving as Diego’s counterpart in the Umbrella Academy.

The Umbrella Academy Season 3: Plot Summary for Season 3

It was revealed towards the conclusion of Season 2 of The Umbrella Academy how The Umbrella Academy managed to save the world (yet again). After being sent to the 1960s and returning to the present day, our heroes discovered that the timelines had shifted and that their home was no longer the same as it had been.

After learning that Sir Reginald Hargreeves is alive and well in this alternate reality, we learn that he has created The Sparrow Academy, rather than The Umbrella Academy, by recruiting six other youngsters from the 43 children who were born on that fateful day.

When Luther and his siblings arrived at the home, they were taken aback when they were greeted by their surrogate father, who had died (but was still very much alive). After a gang of other supers surrounds Hargreeves, including a floating cube they call their brother and their very own Ben, who appears to be the same as Ben, things escalate even more. But something isn’t quite right. As with any dysfunctional family, the Umbrellas and the Sparrows quickly clash, as they do with any other dysfunctional family.

The conclusion of season 2 has left us with a slew of questions, which we hope will be resolved with the premiere of The Umbrella Academy Season 3. Will the Umbrellas be able to find their way back to their previous existence? In this universe, who exactly is Ben? What is Reginald Hargreeves’s reason for remaining alive? Will the Umbrellas and the Sparrows be able to come to terms and work together in order to preserve the world? …and what exactly is that floating cube in the name of Pogo?
