Doha-based airline, Qatar Airways, is planning to expand its international flight operations by launching six new routes in Europe and Asia from October 2010. Qatar Airways will phase in the route expansion over a four-month period with daily flights to Phuket – after Bangkok, its second destination in Thailand – from October 11. The new flights will operate via Kuala Lumpur.

Qatar Airways inducted brand new Boeing B777 Freighter into cargo operations. Qatar Airways’ first B777F flight began its journey from Doha to Amsterdam after the cargo flight was delivered in Doha recently. The company will add three more new Boeing B777 Freighters to its fleet in a span of one year.

Qatar Airways has started scheduled flight services to Ankara, the Turkish capital, from Doha. Accordingly, Qatar Airways will operate four non-stop flight services a week between Ankara and Doha.

Qatar Airways, as part of its 2010 global expansion programme, launched scheduled flights to Bengaluru (Bangalore) to cater to the travelers in the southern city. Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka, becomes the first of several new route launches being planned by Qatar Airways during 2010, said the airlines’ release. Qatar Airways has expanded its South East Asia operation. The airline’s flights from Jakarta to Doha have been de-linked from Singapore and the airline now operates a dedicated non-stop service between the Indonesian and Qatari capital cities. Flights from Singapore, Bali and selected services from Kuala Lumpur have been upgraded to aircraft from the airline’s growing Boeing 777 fleet.

Qatar Airways added Danish Capital, Copenhagen and Barcelona to its ever-expanding route network during the airline’s summer schedule which begins at the end of March 2010. It was speculated that Doha-based carrier plans to launch two new unnamed European destinations.
Commencement of four weekly flights to Copenhagen, the capital city of Denmark, will see the airline significantly increase its Scandinavian presence. Qatar Airways currently operates flights to the neighbouring Swedish capital, Stockholm, non-stop from Doha.
