India’s major cellular service provider Vodafone Essar launched its low cost mobile handset Vodafone 150 (VF 150) at Rs 799.  It is the most affordable handset available in the market, a company release stated.

The launch of VF 150 is aimed at Vodafone’s efforts to penetrate deep into the rural India for which the company is making all-out efforts by setting up extensive infrastructure for ensuring the maximum availability of its cheapest handset among the large and isolate rural population.

Over the next few days, the device will become available across the country, the release said.

Vodafone Essar’s Chief Marketing Officer, Kumar Ramanathan, said, “The cost of the handset can be a significant barrier for people in accessing and benefiting from the mobile revolution. At the price point of VF 150, many more people will become part of the connected world. We will continue to facilitate consumer empowerment through such initiatives.”

Vodafone has been able to significantly reduce manufacturing costs by focusing on a custom-built feature set and packaging design–-without any compromise to user experience, quality or safety, the release said.

VF 150 comes with one-year handset replacement warranty and is priced at Rs 799 (price includes 4 per cent VAT).  VF 150 will enable customers to use voice and text-based services.
