Microsoft launches KIN mobile phones
Software major Microsoft Corp has forayed into the mobile handset sector with the launching of ‘KIN’ phones. KIN handsets are designed apparently targeting the people who are keen to have easy access to social networking and stay connected. KIN is available in two models: KIN ONE and KIN TWO.
KIN has been developed through a joint venture with Verizon Wireless, Vodafone and Sharp Corporation. KIN is designed to be the ultimate social experience that blends the phone, online services and the PC with breakthrough new experiences called the Loop, Spot and Studio.
KIN’s both models feature a touch screen and slide-out keyboard. KIN ONE is small and compact and can be operated with one hand. KIN TWO has a larger screen and keyboard, besides more memory space, a higher resolution camera, and high-definition video recording facility. The 5 and 8 megapixel cameras in KIN ONE and KIN TWO, respectively, can be used in low light.
KIN will be exclusively available from Verizon Wireless in the U.S. beginning in May and from Vodafone this autumn in Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom.
KIN’s home screen KIN Loop displays all the things that happen in someone’s social world. Again, through KIN Spot, the users can share what is happening in their world. Thus, the users can share videos, photos, text messages, web pages, location and status updates by dragging them to a single space on the phone called the Spot.
KIN Windows Phones feature Zune media player. With a Zune Pass subscription, customers using Zune software on their PC can listen to millions of songs from Zune Marketplace on their KIN while on the go, or load their personal collection.
