A brand new VAS Application

Reliance Communications (RCom), announced the launch of mVDO service for its mobile subscribers that will allow RCom users watch, share, search and upload videos on their GSM mobile phones.

The unique mVDO service would be available to users through an excellent subscription offer varying in different price points for different periods of validity from a month to as less as a week. However, all prices for varying validities cost no more than Re. 1/- per day.

The Download feature makes videos optimised; converting them at the backend, so that users can receive the 3GP formatted videos which are played on most of the handsets available in the market.

And Upload – A unique feature allows users to upload the videos from the mobile phones. In return a unique video link of that uploaded video would be shared with the user via SMS for him to be able to access it at a later point in time, thus allowing the user unlimited storage for his videos. Very soon, with the Share feature, users will also be able to share that link with their friends and family, who can then download that video.

Speaking on the service, Mr Krishna Durba, Head – VAS, Reliance Communications said,“The number of video enabled phones today far exceeds Internet Users (who have access to videos on the net through sites like YouTube etc.). Users today are extremely mobile and like having access to information and entertainment on-the-go. A platform like mVDO enables downloads, uploads and impromptu sharing – which is the need of customers today”

Mr. Rajiv Hiranandani, Co-founder & Executive director, Altruist – Mobile2Win said, “UGC content is at the heart of social networking communities and our Video UGC product is well suited to cater to the needs of the urban and rural Indian consumer who is eager to share his/her experiences with like minded people. We feel that here will be a huge uptake in rural India given that this product will be accessible to all Mobile consumers who own mobile phones and not only restricted to those 35 million who have Mobile Internet on their handsets.”
