MTNL launches half paise per second plan for 2G and 3G customers it Delhi and Mumbai Networks and One paisa per second for calls made to any other network across India. SMS rates have also reduced to 25 paise for local, Re.1/- for national and Rs.2.50/- for international SMS. Along with this MTNL also introduced lowest-in-the-industry data usage rate of just 1 paisa/10KB both GPRS & 3G services.

Reliance Communications (RCom), announced the launch of mVDO service for its mobile subscribers that will allow RCom users watch, share, search and upload videos on their GSM mobile phones. The unique mVDO service would be available to users through an excellent subscription offer varying in different price points for different periods of validity from a month to as less as a week. However, all prices for varying validities cost no more than Re. 1/- per day.

Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom SA said that they intend to combine their British mobile phone units- T-Mobile UK and Orange UK to form the country’s biggest mobile operator in a new 50:50 joint venture company. The new joint venture will create the UK’s leading mobile operator. It will have a combined mobile customer base of around 28.4 million, representing approximately 37 percent of UK mobile subscribers*, based on figures at end December 2008. By integrating Orange’s broadband activities, the joint venture will also have the capabilities to offer convergent solutions to its customers in the future. The business will have pro forma 2008 revenues of approximately Euro 9.4 billion (£7.7 billion) and EBITDA of euro 2.1 billion (£1.7 billion).
