Toyota launches the “Prius Plug-in Hybrid”, a plug-in version of the third-generation “Prius” gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle, into key markets. In part to gauge demand for the cars, Toyota said it would start leasing some 600 plug-in hybrids in the first half of 2010, for us by government agencies and businesses. Toyota will lease 230 units in Japan, 150 units in the United States, 200 units in Europe.

US most successful motorcycle maker Harley-Davidson finally enters the Indian market and it will start selling its iconic motorcycles in India in 2010. The company has established a subsidiary to be located in Gurgaon, near Delhi, and has begun the process of seeking dealers. Harley-Davidson is the global leader in cruising and touring motorcycles and ranks as one of the strongest brands in the world, with motorcycle sales now in more than 70 countries.

Fiat India Automobiles announced their plans to enhance its focus on exports by exporting the recently launched Fiat Linea to South Africa. Launched in India in January 2009, the Fiat Linea is getting tremendous response from its Indian customers. The company is looking out for new avenues by exporting its vehicles to SAARC countries like Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka as well as other right hand drive countries. Fiat India is setting out an export target of 7000 units of Fiat’s India manufactured cars during this year.

To commemorate 20 years of Mazda Roadster (known as Mazda MX-5 internationally) sales, Mazda Motor Corporation has released a special edition version of its lightweight, two-seat, open-top sports car for the Japanese market. The Mazda Roadster 20th Anniversary goes on sale through all Mazda and Mazda Anfini dealerships in Japan. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price (including sales tax) is 2,860,000 yen for the soft-top version and 3,110,000 yen for the RHT model. All 20th Anniversary models come in Crystal White Pearl Mica body colour, used for the first time on the Mazda Roadster.

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. unveiled Nissan LEAF, zero-emission car. Designed specifically for a lithium-ion battery-powered chassis, Nissan LEAF is a medium-size hatchback that comfortably seats five adults and has a range of more than 160km (100 miles) to satisfy real-world consumer requirements. The “LEAF” name is a significant statement about the car itself. Just as leaves purify the air in nature, so Nissan LEAF purifies mobility by taking emissions out of the driving experience. Pricing details will be announced closer to start of sales in late 2010; however, the company expects the car to be competitively priced in the range of a well-equipped C-segment vehicle. Additionally, Nissan LEAF is expected to qualify for an array of significant local, regional and national tax breaks and incentives in markets around the world.

Honda Motor Co. on Monday announced that the automaker plans to launch its planned Hybrid Car CR-Z sporty model in February 2010 and Fit Hybrid before the end of 2010.
By combining these two models with the currently available Insight and Civic Hybrid, Honda will further enhance its lineup of compact hybrid models, which leverage the unique characteristics of Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist (IMA), including compact size, lightweight and high efficiency.
