Mumbai, May 12, 2009

Celebrating South African Airways its 75th anniversary this year, South African Airways (SAA) introduces non stop 6 direct additional flights between India-South Africa-India and would introduce six higher capacity equipments to meet the growing demand during the IPL season. These additional flights will be deployed on this route between May 18 and May 26 this year, to meet the rush for the semi finals and final IPL matches.

Seeing a sudden escalation in the demand for the India – South Africa route this season, due to heightened cricket craze among Indians, South African Airways has taken this strategic step to accommodate the growing passenger traffic. Flying on the route will be state- of- the- art Airbus 340-600 Aircrafts along with the existing Airbus 340-200 aircrafts. SAA has chosen a very spacious layout, seating 42 passengers in the premium business class and 275 seats in the economy class of Airbus 340-600.

Speaking about this surge in passenger demand, Mr. Tauseef Khan, Acting Head – South East Asia, South African Airways said, “The airline has the expertise of servicing their customers for major events like IPL, as we have done this successfully in the past too for events like Cricket World Cup 2003 and the first Twenty20 ICC World Cup in 2007. Even before IPL had started, SAA had already received enquiries for as many as 2500 passengers for IPL. At SAA, our aim is to offer the best to our customers and thus we will continue working closely with the tour operators to offer the most affordable packages to South Africa for IPL.”

Apart from being the only airline offering direct flights between India and South Africa, SAA also becomes an obvious choice for travelers since it allows them to arrive at 8 AM, giving them the full day to explore the country. In fact, SAA was one of the preferred airlines by IPL teams and BCCI delegates, due to their convenient flight schedules compared to other airlines and fully lie-flat- bed seats of 180 degrees for added comfort to travelers.
