Financial capital of India – Mumbai – experienced an attack from the terrorists. 100 persons died and more than 350 are said to be injured. The death toll also includes 14 cops which comprises 5 top police officials of Mumbai police.
Terrorists, who apparently came in by boats, struck at 10 places in south Mumbai including five-star hotels, hospitals and railway stations. Trident Hotel, Taj Hotel, Wadi Bunder, Cama hospital, GT hospital, VT station, Bootleggers pub, Girgaum and Metro cinema faced the terror heat. There was a case of confusion for some time and many people lost their lives due to the indiscriminate firing and grenade attacks by the terrorists.
Subsequently police came into action and chased two terrorists and shot them dead near Girgaum. However they paid a dear price when they fought back in south Mumbai.
The head of the Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad Hemant Karkare who was shot three times in the chest outside Kama Hospital suffered fatal injuries. Additional Commissioner of Police Sadanand Date is critical. Well-known encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar is also dead. On the other hand, Ashok Kamte, DIG, Maharashtra State died in the terrorists firing.
Army men along with NSG and police officials are still fighting with the terrorists in Taj Hotel Colaba, Oberoi Hotel and Chhbra House. There are more than 50 persons kept hostage by the terrorists in three locations put together. It is estimated that nearly two dozens terrorists hit Mumbai and 6 of them are said to be shot dead by police authorities. There are 9 arrests.
