The live university of acting – Chandrakant Gokhale – as he was recognized by the veterans of Indian theatre, died due to old age in Pune on June 20, 2008. He was 87 years old. He was suffering from cancer. He is survived by his actor son – Vikram Gokhale.
Chandrakant Gokhale had more than 70 plays and 150 movies at his credit. The last movie he enacted a small character role is 'Valu' – the movie praised at Kannes Movies Festival in France.
He was a recipient of many awards both on state and national level for acting and include the V Shantaram Award and Vishnudas Bhave Award. The legend is also known as the guiding star who was always seen as a versatile actor than just a dramatist. The father of acting was also known as a generous donor and nationalist. He has secretaly donated lacs of rupees to the organizations working for survivors of deceased military personnel, children of prostitutes, blinds and to the old age homes in Pune.
