Tatas Nano plant shifts from West Bengal's Singur

Miffed with the constant agitation by Mamata Banerjee at Singur, Tata Motors has finally decided to move its Nano project out of Bengal. The company is scouting for a place to relocate the unit and the most likely candidates currently seem to be Karnataka, Gujarat and Maharashtra.

At a meeting with the state's Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Industry Minister Nirupam Sen, Tata Motor Chairman Ratan N. Tata and Managing Director Ravi Kant expressed concern at the Trinamool stir that threatened the safety of the company's contractors and vendors.

Tata Motors said it displayed immense patience and had sincerely hoped that the situation would improve. Throughout the construction period, despite the constant obstruction and acts of aggression, staff and the contractors continued to work in the hope that the situation would normalise.

Tata had reiterated that the location of the Nano project in West Bengal was an expression of faith in the investor friendly atmosphere created by the state government.

The project was to be a showcase plant which would have considerably enhanced the visibility of the state, created jobs and could have enhanced the quality of life of the state's urban as well as rural population.

But Tata and Ravi Kant reiterated their faith in the state government's policies and expressed regret that "unfortunate circumstances" had prevented Tata Motors' participation in the development of West Bengal. They hoped that West Bengal would grow and share the prosperity and growth of India.
