The game beyond the game

The match fixing has entered the game of hockey. The Malaysian media is talking about the fixed match that was played between India and Malaysia. India happened to be the winner of the Azalan Shah Hockey tournament. At a moment of time when the Indian hockey is undergoing really bad times as they simply failed to even qualify for the forthcoming Olympic, the victory meant a lot. However as we come across this allegations the victory of the Indian hockey team is somewhat questioned.

Though there are no allegations on the Indian players, one must understand that there is a need to conduct investigations into what has happened. This is not only in the interest of the Indian hockey team but also in the interest of the hockey as a game. If this malpractice has entered into this game, it must be eliminated in totality. The real game lovers would like to watch true games than just a pre decided dramatic games. Also for a team like that of Indian team, there is a genuine need of genuine victories. This warrants an investigation from the Indian hockey federation into the matter.

There has to be a permanent independent investigating body along with the regulatory and developmental body for all games. The ministry of games also can issue some guidelines (not statutes) which will govern the working of such bodies. At the end of the day the sporting spirit must live in the games. Elimination of the sporting spirit is the last thing to happen and it should be protected at all cost.
