Bangladeshis -- India's problem of 21st century

Few years ago, it was Shiv Sena agenda and was seen as an integral part of their communal agenda. However as UPA completes four years in power, the prime minister is also putting the Bangladeshis as a chief cause of concern from the point of view of the national security. The immigrants have been dwelling in India for years and have enjoyed the fruits of growth and development at the cost of Indian citizens. Now they have gone ahead and are posing a threat to the very integrity of the nation.

The alleged participation of Bangladeshi element in the bomb blasts in Jaipur has caused the center to have a serious look at the issue. A recent debate on NDTV where all the leading editors of various newspapers and publications in India were involved, the consensus view expressed was that of a lackluster manner in which external affairs with Bangladesh were handled. 'Arthashastra' the classic written by Kautilya describing strategy and political measures a state should adopt, emphasizes that the state should maintain a record of immigrants and always keep a tab of their activities. In the modern world this becomes even more important as we come across the proxy wars fought by sending people and creating sleeper cells.

The Bangladeshi inflow in India is a cause of concern and there is a need to seal the borders. Though the government tells us about the various measures to close the borders with Bangladesh there is little that can be relied upon. The number of immigrants is continuously going up and due to no cooperation by the Bangladesh government the things are difficult to improve. Also there are incidences noted in the past, when the Maharashtra police took the Bangladeshis to Indo-Bangla border, they were opposed by the Bengal political authorities thinking that it is an anti Bengali move.  The people thus sent to Bangladesh come back even before the police come back to their duty. This is a real sad scene and hence it is high time that we workout some concrete plan to counter this problem.
