The recent poll in Karnataka, has given an unclear mandate. Both Congress and BJP must go after Janata Dal (U) seeking support to form government. At such a moment, Advani's statement that the BJP prefer to sit in opposition than depending upon JD (S) due to the track record of this party. Both Congress and BJP were hit by JD(S) behaviour of back stabbing.
In the last term, JD(S) enjoyed power for two and half years as Kumarswami- son of Devegowda, the party supremo- was the chief minister. As per the agreement between the two- BJP and JD(S) - BJP was expected to get the chief ministership after the JD(S) has enjoyed it to the fullest. However, JD(S) backtracked and as a result, BJP withdrew its support to JD(S). Congress did not back JD(S) as their friendship with JD(S) has got similar fruits in the past. As a culmination, of all this government dwindled and the state opted for elections.
Once bitten twice shy. Now nobody wants to partner with JD(S) it seems. Though, a possibility cannot be ruled out. The state is an important destination for both the national parties. For Congress it is winning back the forte that they have lost. For BJP it is coming to power in at least one of the south Indian states. Especially, when MP, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh are going for elections and the nation is preparing for general elections. However both the parties must admit that there is a need of a stable government in power than just being in power.
After a long wait, UP is experiencing a clear mandate in favour of BSP. However not very sure when it will see a clear voting in of one party to power in Karnataka. A clear mandate matters a lot. When it comes to many of them making it to power, every one wants to play his own card and propel his own interest. In such circumstances the growth and development takes backseat and emotional issues are played up. Emergence of the Kannadiga Vedike is the case in point which is creating trouble in Karnataka on such emotional issues. The neighbouring states like Maharashtra and Tamilnadu are also waiting for a stable government in Karnataka, as they want to settle the border dispute and water dispute with the state amicably. At the end of the day, there are high stakes for all involved when it comes to ruling Karnataka.
