AVIATION

Now you can rent a plane

July 22, 2008

Now you can rent a plane and zip to the destination of your choice that too at the cost of rented car. With Airnetz Aviation, a Mumbai-based private air-charter company, to introduce small aircraft, travel by personal aircraft is becoming affordable to the masses.

The company is planning to start single- and twin-engine aircraft services in the country.

A single engine aircraft's hourly operating cost will be around Rs 2,000 for a 4-seater plane, which will amount upto Rs 500 per person. A twin-engine's hourly operating cost will be around Rs 4,000 for a 5-seater aircraft. An hour's journey will cover any destination in the range of 250-300 km.

"A Volvo bus' ticket costs that much," Airnetz Aviation CEO Atul Khekade said.

These small, single engine and twin-engine aircraft consume less fuel, resulting in low cost of maintenance.

"Owing to its fuel efficiency, the travel cost of flying in these aircraft will be even lesser than the flying an economy class in a domestic airline," he added.

Various manufacturing companies like Diamond Air, Epic Aircraft and Airo Aviation manufacture these planes, costing around 60 lakh. A single-engine aircraft is ideal for short-range flights with a few passengers or light load of cargo in good to fair weather conditions. A twin-engine aircraft is good especially in unpredictable weather situations.

"This will play an important role in every man's life, making travel quicker, convenient and affordable. Like rent a car it will be rent a plane and that too at the rent of a car," he added.

Airnetz Aviation is a private jet, helicopter and turbo prop charter services company based in Mumbai and has a fleet network of over 120 aircraft in India and 4,000 aircraft worldwide.

The company provides charter services to India's top corporate and business executives of small and medium enterprises. Promoters of Airnetz have over 9,000 customers worldwide with portfolio of its businesses ranging from aviation, Internet solutions to human resources.
