Skoda India has unveiled the new 'Skoda Superb' in Mumbai. The car is slated to hit the Indian roads in February 2009.
The Superb recently bagged two prestigious awards. One is the 2008 Golden Steering Wheel (Goldenes Lenkrad) organised by the German-based magazine Bild am Sonntag and the other received recently is the Großen Osterreichischen Automobil-Preis organised by ARBO annually, where experts, VIPs and thousands of readers selected the best and most popular vehicles of 2008 from among 36 cars.
The Superb, the flagship of Skoda Auto India, will be positioned as a benchmark in the premium large sedan segment. The engines to be introduced in India will be – 1.8 TSI, 3.6 V6 FSI (petrol version) and 2.0 TDI (diesel version). The pricing is yet to be decided.
Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Thomas Kuehl, Board Member, Sales & Marketing, Skoda India said, "Skoda Superb was recently launched in all European markets and has received great response. In India, the new Superb will be a benchmark in its class in terms of design, safety, and value. Skoda sales in India have grown by 54% over Jan-Oct 2007 due to the phenomenal success of our new entrant, the Fabia and we expect grander success with the new Superb.

The Engine - All of new Superbs engine operate with direct fuel injection and excel as a result of their low fuel consumption and the direct and useful advantage of Direct Injection is low revolutions. With acceleration of 0-100 km/h in 6.5 secs, the 3.6 FSI V6 Superb can attain a top speed of 250 km/h.
The Twin Door Concept - The unique, patented "twin door" variable boot opening offers an extremely practical, functional and well thought out solution. The new Superb's tailgate places practically no limits on what can be transported and can accommodate 1670 litres of luggage when folded forward. Also, it has a electrically assisted automatic closing of the bootlid.
Safety - There are upto eight airbags on board. Two front and side airbags as well as head airbags at the front and back provide all-round protection. The side -airbags in the rear are completely a new feature. ESP, TPM, Hill Hold and Park Distance Control – are the other highest level of Active Safety.
Intelligent lighting: AFS (Adaptive Front Light System) a first in the VW group and first in India, improves visibility, adapting to the driving conditions and enabling the driver to recognise obstacles in the road sooner and react quicker. AFS is combined with Bi-xenon headlights and front fog lamps with corner lights in the new Skoda Superb.
Design & Looks - The appearance of the new Superb is striking in its form. The contoured lines of the bonnet, the lines of the roof, chrome trim around the windows aren all an eye-catching feature in the new Superb.
Interior - The interiors, with its finely tuned mix of materials and excellent workmanship, satisfies the needs of even the most demanding customer. In certain trim levels, the steering wheel includes multi – function buttons for the operation of the radio unit, MFA and a mobile phone.The design cue is reflected in the look of the central console. It includes the new Columbus navigation system with advanced, operator friendly, touch screen technology - the first time in India and a 30 GB hard disk for rapid data access and also the dual zone climate control system.
Automatic 7-speed DSG is the first in India - The petrol engine car in the new Superb with 1.8TSI is also the first in India. It provides a peak torque of 250Nm in the range from 1500/rpm to 4200/rpm and propels the front-wheel driven Superb to a top speed of 220 km/h. Acceleration is quick, needing only 8.6 seconds from 0-100km. |
