Mercedes-Benz India sales zoom past 3,000-mark in Jan-Sept

Mumbai, Oct 6, 2008

Mercedes-Benz India's sales in the first three quarters surpassed the magic mark of 3,000. The actual January-September 2008 sales figures stood at 3,001 vehicles, a rise of 56% over the same period in 2007.

"Our impressive performance continues. We are delighted to cross the 3,000 figure mark for the first time and have already set our sights on many more. This impressive performance in an otherwise fluctuating economy is commendable. Mercedes-Benz has proved again that it is the luxury car of choice for the Indian customer. We are confident that in the coming months and years, we will continue to grow and remain competitive in an already ultra dynamic market," said Wilfried Aulbur, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India.

By the end of the third quarter of 2008, the S Class, the leading luxury vehicle from the Mercedes-Benz stable sold a total of 524 units. This is a rise of 64% over January-September 2007.

The new C Class made its debut at the Auto Expo in January 2008. The company sold more than 1,450 units in India in January-September 2008, a leap of 135% over C Class sales in the corresponding period in 2007.

The popular E Class continues to be the favuorite of the Indian customer with sales at 921cars between January-September 2008. Two new engine variants were also added to the E Class during this period; the E 220 CDI and the E 230, making it a luxury car with the largest number of variants in India, says the company.

Sanjiv Sahajwala, director-sales and marketing of Mercedes-Benz India, said, "The luxury car portfolio from Mercedes-Benz has the largest scope and depth in India. Our customers appreciate that they can get the latest and the best from the Mercedes-Benz stable, backed by the most extensive after-sales service network as compared to any luxury player in India… a critical enabler towards maintaining traction in the Indian market."
