Terrorisation of politics

The incidence of offering ticket to one accused in the Uttar Pradesh serial blasts, Maulana Tariq adds pain to our life. A lot have been talked about the criminalization of politics and growing involvement of criminals in the mainstream politics mainly at the local level where the real public welfare is to be addressed to.

The argument by the in charge of the political party which offered a ticket to this accused that Maulana wants to fight. If it is the case, then let him fight the case in a court of law first and why make him a hero in the eyes of public at large. It is a trend now wherein once caught the accused opt for a political entry. The fertile land for such entry into politics is the most fertile Uttar Pradesh. The law and order situation of this state is already in question and there is no thin line that exists between politics and crime, forget differentiating between the two.

The electoral agencies technically cannot stop Maulana Tariq from contesting elections. However there is a need to track who all are the persons supporting him and where the money coming from. Though the election commission tracks these items there is a need to do so separately by the state and central intelligence agencies.

The very intention of this follow up is aimed at not only the tracking of the aid given to such elements on the hot list of the government but also to track the hidden support they are getting. The monetary links must be unearthed. It was rightly observed in the past that the military moves on the stomach. If the monetary linkages are unearthed, the intelligence agencies would end up making inroads into the enemy's forte.
