The Tata Motors Group global sales, comprising Tata, Tata Daewoo and Hispano Carrocera range of commercial vehicles, Tata passenger vehicles along with distributed brands in India, and Jaguar and Land Rover, stood at 85,114 units in August 2010, a growth of 29% over August 2009.

Maruti Suzuki’s Plant B at Manesar, where the company invested Rs 1,700 crore, will be ready by January 2012 and will bring an additional capacity of 250,000 units per annum. The car maker’s present facilities has an installed capacity of 12,00,000 units per annum (850,000 units per annum at Gurgaon plant and 350,000 units per annum at its Manesar facility) and the total capacity will go up to 17,50,000 units per annum by fiscal 2012-13.

Ashok Leyland, the Hinduja flagship, announced that the company bagged an order for 2,850 buses from the Institute for Road Transport (IRT), the nodal agency for procurement of vehicles for the state of Tamil Nadu. The order includes a requirement from MTC for 150 vehicles conforming to BS IV emission norms and is the very first such order to be received from a State Transport Undertaking.

Mahindra 2 Wheelers develops its motorcycles incorporating design elements from the Bologna-based Engines Engineering, a boutique design house which Mahindra Group had acquired in 2008, says the company. In addition to Mahindra 2 Wheelers, Engines Engineering also undertakes design work for companies such as Ducati, MV Augusta and Benelli.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced that the company is setting up a new learning and development campus in the southern city of Thiruvananthapuram. The new campus will house up to 10,000 professionals when fully completed and will offer TCS’ leading edge learning curriculum to those who join the company from colleges.

Hyundai Motors launches the company’s and certainly, Korea’s first full speed electric vehicle (FSEV), the ‘BlueOn’. BlueOn has a compact body with an overall length of 3,585 mm, overall width of 1,595 mm and overall height of 1,540 mm. It is equipped with a highly efficient electric motor powered by an innovative 16.4 kWh LiPoly (lithium-ion polymer) battery technology that offers numerous advantages over other battery types. BlueOn boasts a maximum power of 81ps (61kW) and maximum torque of 21.4kg/m(210Nm). BlueOn can run 140 km on a single charge at a maximum speed of 130km/h. BlueOn can achieve the 0-100 km/h speed in 13.1 seconds, better than some gasoline models in the same class, says Hyundai.

Airbus has commenced production of the latest Airbus product, the A350 XWB, in Germany. The green light was jointly given at the company’s production plant at Stade by Airbus president and CEO Tom Enders, executive vice-president operations and chairman of the board of management Airbus Germany Gerald Weber, and Parliamentary state secretary and German government aerospace coordinator Peter Hintze.

Taiwan-based laptop manufacturer Micro Star International (MSI) has launched F-Series laptops in India. The MSI F-Series laptops are priced between Rs 37,000 and Rs 53,000 based on the model and configuration. MSI’s new product series — FX400, FX600 and FR600 — are equipped with the Intel Core i5 processor with Intel turbo boost and Intel hyper-threading technologies.
