Maruti Suzuki, the country’s number one car maker said it has set a new Guinness Book of World Record by bringing together 342 Swift cars at a ‘car parade’ in Gurgaon. Similar ‘car parades’ were held today simultaneously in Sriperumbudur and Mumbai but the world record was set at Gurgaon. As per the Guinness World Records, the earlier world record for maximum number of cars of a single model was set with 249 cars in New Zealand in October 2005.

Reliance Webstore and Coolpad Communications has commenced the market roll-out of India’s cheapest touchscreen CDMA phone, S100, across the country. The handset would be distributing as well as retailing through Reliance World stores across 100 top Indian cities. Coolpad S100 will be offered in the sub-4500 price-point, making it nearly 30% cheaper than similar touchscreen phones in the market.

Indian Automobile major Mahindra & Mahindra strengthened its position in the Electric Vehicles domain with the acquisition of a majority stake in bangalore-based electric car manufacturer REVA Electric Car Company. Under the new agreement M&M will own 55.2% equity in Mahindra REVA by a combination of equity purchase from the promoters and a fresh equity infusion of over Rs 45 crore (approx $10 million) into the company.

MTS launched its voice services in the city of Pune covering the western Maharashtra. MBlaze service will now be available in the regional towns of Solapur, Kolhapur, Sangli, Jalgoan and Ahmdnagar and a total of 17 cities in the State. Qatar Airways inducted brand new Boeing B777 Freighter into cargo operations. Qatar Airways’ first B777F flight began its journey from Doha to Amsterdam after the cargo flight was delivered in Doha recently. The company will add three more new Boeing B777 Freighters to its fleet in a span of one year.
