GoAir takes delivery of new A320 aircraft

Mumbai, November 15, 2007

GoAir has taken delivery of its new A320 aircraft that was part of a $1.2 billion order the carrier had placed with Airbus last year.

"The new aircraft we have received is the second delivery of our $1.2 billion order. Following the induction of the new aircraft, we shall be operating 561 commercial flights per week under the new winter schedule. We plan to have 41 aircraft by March 2012," GoAir Managing Director Jeh Wadia said.

The carrier, under its expansion plans, is planning to double its overall frequency within its network by increasing commercial flight operations from 259 flights to 561 commercial flights per week. However, the airline would not be adding new destinations during this fiscal.

GoAir will complete its expansion plans of doubling its flight operations by November-end.

The carrier's average flown load factors during the first half of this financial year stood at 81 per cent. The airline recorded 108 per cent growth in passenger traffic at the close of the First Half of the current fiscal.

"We have been recording escalating growth in passenger traffic flown on a quarter-on-quarter basis. At the close of the second quarter of the current fiscal, GoAir's passenger traffic volume increased by 123 per cent. In the first quarter, we had recorded 95 per cent growth in passenger traffic," said Wadia.

Budget carrier GoAir launched its operations in 2005. At present, it operates 561 weekly flights across 11 destinations in India.
