Humanity lost its face

Baba Amte is no more. A man born in a rich family and qualified lawyer when turns a social worker makes big. India saw this transition happening for the second time within a short span of 100 years. First it was a man called Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, travelled this riches to rags path to reach one of the ‘Everests’ in the field of fight against injustice. Second only to 'Mahatma' this gentleman Murlidhar Devidas Amate popularly known as Baba Amte emerged to help those unfortunate who suffered from 'Leprosy'. When no person was willing to touch the leprosy patient this man not only treated them, but also helped them earn their living and live a life with some amount of self-esteem.

Baba did not stop by emancipating the leprosy patients. But he furthered his work to the tribals who have never seen any modern medicines, modern education.

He introduced them with education, health, awareness and economic growth and development. He was a staunch believer in the Gandhian philosophy. Gandhi was always addressed as 'father of nation' whereas this man was addressed as 'Baba' or 'father'.

The megasese, padma vibhushan and other awards were the just outcome of what he did in the tribal areas in Maharashtra. It is easy to emerge as a social worker. But it is equally difficult to make social work the lifestyle of the generation next. His sons and grandsons are happily persuading his way of life.

However it is the responsibility of the society at large to continue Baba's work. The responsibility does not end with his family, to continue his work. Few months ago, when Baba's elder son was denied Visa to go to USA to accept an award for his outstanding service to the society, it was the same society that shouted out making a hue and cry.

What after that? The affection and sincerity towards a social worker should not be temporarily. There is a need to work for the noble causes and spend time and money for such noble causes. Going forward, taking Baba's work to each and every corner of the world to help the last man in need will the true salute to Baba.
