Reliance Communications launches low-priced colour handset

Mumbai, October 3, 2007

CDMA major Reliance Communications has launched a lowest priced colour handset, priced at Rs 999, even as the company sold over 1 crore handsets in the country.

The new handset - Classic 732 - is priced much below most of the monochrome handsets in the country, while it is also priced below that of existing colour handsets. At present, colour handsets are available at around Rs 1,500-2,000 crore, Reliance Communications President (personal business) S P Shukla told reporters here today.

"There are no strings attached and this is a completely transparent deal," he added.

The Classic 732 has features like 500x3 phonebook, SMS on call reject, speakerphone and others that most other entry-level colour phones do not have, Shukla added.

Reliance Communications had earlier launched Classic monochrome handsets at the lowest price of Rs 777 ($20), resulting in a paradigm shift in the affordability levels of entry level, feature-rich handset for the Indian consumer.

The Classic range of handsets includes Colour-FM series, Colour display and monochrome handsets with colour film display and are supported by an extensive nationwide after sales service network.

Meanwhile, the company has sold over one crore of its classic range of handsets. This is due to the remarkable quality of the handsets and the robust network of the company, Shukla said.
