The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has initiated a consultation process on issuance of hard copy of telecom bills free to subscribers.
The regulator was of view that no post-paid subscriber is liable to pay for the bill issued by the service provider. TRAI had examined Indian Telegraph Rules, cellular mobile telecom service and Unified Access Service License (UASL) agreements among others before reaching this decision.
"The authority is convinced that issue of hard copy of the bill will continue to be required in the context of the fact that all telecom access subscribers may not be having access to computer and Internet to obtain the bill through e-mails," TRAI said in a release here today.
TRAI was also of the opinion that service providers in other sectors like power, gas, water utility services are not charging any amount for providing hard copy of the bill.
The regulator has called for comments from the industry, which have to be submitted on or before January 18, 2008. |
